Jewellery lasts far beyond one lifetime. Jeweller is often passed down through the generations and we know that the sentiment of jewellery sometimes extends to the metal itself. Perhaps you already have some pre-loved precious metals or family heirlooms that you would like to recycle and repurpose to make your wedding rings.
Being committed recyclers we are happy to make this happen. While not all metals are suitable for recycling, a full assessment will be provided prior to your workshop with additional time requirements and costs agreed then.
Book a consultation and drop off your gold
The first step is simply getting in touch! Let us know as much information about the gold you have and the rings you would like to make and we can explain the process. Full guidance will be given so don't worry if you don't know!
To have enough time ahead of the workshop we need to receive your precious metal at least 3 weeks in advance. If we cannot discern the carat of the metal we can have it tested for you to make sure we know what we're working with. Don't worry, the cost of this will be included.
Step 2.
We melt down and reform your metal
Once we receive your metal and have the details of the rings you would like to make we will carefully melt it down and reform it to your specifications - your ring sizes, band shape and width and the type of metal or carat of the gold.
Due to all the work involved in this there is a minimum charge of £150. There could be additional costs if we need to add more metal to achieve your specifications or if you choose to go for two different band shapes for example.
Step 3.
Making your rings
You will be provided with your repurposed metal ready to be formed into your rings. During your workshop, you will use a variety of traditional goldsmithing techniques to create your rings - your way.
This is a very 'hands on' experience so, whether your ideal rings are textured or polished, simple or shaped, we will be at your side to provide professional tuition to ensure you achieve your vision.
Step 4.
Finishing touches
At the end of the day (once you have finished admiring your rings!) they will be sent for compulsory hallmarking - the cost of which is included in the quoted price. To make your rings even more special, you can opt to add a personal engraving or stone setting to your finished rings.
Then finally, upon collection, your rings which will be presented to you in a luxurious, fine quality jewellery box. and your to keep forever. Maybe even being melted down and repurposed for new wedding bands by generations to come.
Using your own gold is a wonderful way to make sentimental wedding bands even more meaningful. If you would like to find out more about the process please do get in touch or book your workshop to get the process started.
